Where to Start Your Search for Senior Living

The search for the right senior living community can take some time.

Some great options for getting a recommendation include:

  • Doctors or therapists
  • Senior publications

Research each community. Read online reviews and blog posts. Call if you have more questions. Then schedule a tour. This is your chance to see what life in the community is really like. Most seniors find that taking a loved one with them helps them digest information better and ask more questions. To get the most out of your tour, schedule it during a meal or other community event.

Ater your tour, try making a list of pros and cons. Narrow down your list and consider visiting your top choices again. Trust your gut, and choose the community that feels right to you. Just make sure you begin the search early enough to allow sufficient time. Seniors who have a chronic or progressive illness, for example, should consider beginning the search before they need care.

Medicaid Eligibility In Georgia

In Georgia in 2022, long term Care Medicaid considers the applicants financial status in addition to their functional need. The monthly income limit for a single applicant is limited to $2,523. The value of ones financial assets, excluding their vehicle, their home , household furnishings, and personal belongings cannot be greater than $2,000.

The MMMNA is the minimum amount of income a non-applicant spouse is allowed to have each month. If the non-applicants income falls under this amount, the applicant spouse is able to supplement the non-applicants income with his or her own. In 2022, the applicant spouse can transfer up to $3,435 a month to their non-applicant spouse. The CSRA is a certain amount of assets that a non-applicant spouse, also referred to as a community spouse, is able to keep rather than be required to spend down for the applicant spouse to qualify for Medicaid. As of 2022, this figure can be as much as $137,400.

Individuals whose income and resources are over Medicaids published limits, as well as married couples, should consult with a professional Medicaid planner before application. This ensures the best possibility of acceptance in the program and ensures the healthy, or non-applicant spouse, has adequate income and resources to afford their cost of living. Its important to note that eligibility requirements for regular state Medicaid and Medicaid waivers differ.
