PHOENIX—- CenterWell Senior Primary Care will open nine new senior-focused primary care centers in the Phoenix area through early 2023, marking the companys debut in the Arizona market, giving local seniors access to CenterWells personalized, care-team approach to healthcare.
CenterWell Senior Primary Care is focused on its patients and gives them access to a full care team including physicians, pharmacists, behavioral health specialists and more. This is CenterWells first facility in Arizona, located at 6544 W Thomas Road, Suite 11. Humana Wcas Throw $12 Billion Into Centerwell Senior Primary Care Expansion
Humana Inc. and Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe are pumping $1.2 billion into a joint venture to further expand senior-focused, value-based primary care clinics.
Specifically, Humanas CenterWell Senior Primary Care arm will be the partner in the expanded WCAS relationship.
The success and expansion of senior-focused value-based primary care could potentially lead to more collaboration between these organizations and home health providers. This, in turn, opens the door for providers to engage in risk-sharing models.
CenterWell is the largest senior-focused, value-based primary care group in the U.S.
On its end, WCAS is a private equity firm focused on technology and health care. WCAS also has a recently launched portfolio company, Valtruis, which is dedicated to value-based care.
As part of the JV, CenterWell and WCAS will develop 100 new senior-focused, payer-agnostic primary care clinics between 2023 and 2025.
Early success has led to increased interest in our payer-agnostic model, and under this new joint venture, we look forward to significantly expanding our geographic footprint and serving even more patients in more communities around the country, Reneé Buckingham, president of Humanas primary care organization, said in a press statement.
Per the agreement, WCAS will have majority ownership of the JV, and the de novo clinics developed through the partnership will be managed and operated under the CenterWell brand.
Humana’s Centerwell Senior Primary Care To Expand To 12 State Markets
Humana subsidiary CenterWell Senior Primary Care, the largest senior-oriented primary care provider in the nation, is expanding its reach to 12 states.
Between 2022 and early 2023, CenterWell will create an additional 26 care centers and enter Arizona, Kentucky and Tennessee for the first time, according to the Jan. 20 news release.
“The senior-focused care we provide enables our physicians to spend more time with each patient,” said Reneé Buckingham, president of Humana’s primary care organization, which includes CenterWell and Conviva care centers. “This personalized approach improves our patients’ lives and wellbeing, and is driving demand for growth in new centers across the U.S.”
Humana anticipates to grow the primary care organization by between 40 to 60 centers, bringing the total up to 260 locations between CenterWell and Conviva.

Approximately 240,000 patients are currently served by the Primary Care Organization, which operates senior-focused primary care centers under both the CenterWell Senior Primary Care and Conviva Care Centers brands. This includes 222 centers along with independent physician associations that are part of the Primary Care Organization. By the end of 2022, Humana expects to serve Medicare patients in approximately 250 CenterWell and Conviva clinics and intends to add 30 to 50 additional CenterWell clinics per year through 2025.
