Find A Community In Your Area

No matter your need, we have the right community for you. Get started finding the perfect new home for you or your loved one today!

Keep in Regular Contact

During the winter months, fewer hours of sunlight and cold temperatures can trigger bouts of loneliness and depression. For seniors who have a harder time traveling and getting out of the house, its easier to fall into these negative emotions.

Maintaining close contact with your loved ones through visits or video calls can improve their mental health. If you cant visit frequently, try reaching out to a neighbor who can check up on your loved one to make sure theyre safe and healthy.

Finish Any Last-Minute House Maintenance

Once the temperatures drop, it becomes very difficult to fix a leaky roof or repair a window. Do a walk-through of your loved ones home to check for any needed repairs. This is a great way to ensure nothing will break down during the cold winter months.

Ways To Help Seniors Get Ready For Winter

Lets take a look at some simple things that can be done to help your older loved one get ready for the winter season.

The arrival of winter brings challenges for every homeowner, but seniors may need to take extra measures to be ready for colder temperatures. Starting preparations as early as possible is the best way to ensure you or your loved one stays safe during the winter months.

Lets take a look at some simple things that can be done to help your older loved one get ready for the winter season.

Prepare for Winter Storms

Slipping on ice-covered sidewalks and driveways is a huge fall risk for seniors. Make arrangements prior to a snow storm to have the driveway and walkways shoveled and salted as soon as it is over. If you or a relative cant take care of it, hire a service or neighbor to take care of it. Look for any local agencies on aging who may provide these kinds of services for seniors during the winter months.

Stockpile Supplies for Power Outages

When heavy snows and ice storms arrive, they can weigh down power lines, causing outages. Putting together an emergency kit of supplies will ensure your loved one is not caught off guard.According to the CDC, accidental injuries, such as falls, are one of the leading causes of death in individuals over the age of 65.

Stockpiling batteries and a few heavy-duty flashlights will guarantee there is no stumbling around in the dark if there is a loss of power.

The Landing at Augusta Woods, a 120-unit luxury senior living community in Spring, Texas, is underway. The projects development team includes Regent Construction Group as general contractor and Jeffrey DeMure + Associates as architect, while financing has been provided by UCB. The new community is slated for delivery in early 2021.

Located at 7727 Augusta Pines Drive, The Landing at Augusta Woods will encompass 75 suites for active retirement living in a two-story building and 45 apartments for assisted living in a single-story building. Amenities are to include multiple restaurant dining venues, a swimming pool and spa, outdoor fountains and fireplace lounges. Assisted living services will feature medication assistance and transportation, as well as care coordination. Frontier Management will operate the senior living community.

The 10-acre development site is roughly 34 miles north of downtown Houston via Interstate 45, less than 1 mile east of a Walmart Supercenter. Other shopping and dining options are within a 2-mile radius of the senior living community. Nearby golf courses include Augusta Pines Golf Club and Willow Creek Golf Club.

The senior housing sector is still going strong. Although new construction showed signs of slowing down in April, a September saw the supply of this property type coming in line with demand.

Great Ways To Help Seniors Organize Their Medication

Lets take a look at 6 great ways to help the senior in your life stay organized with their medications.

For many people as they age, taking medication becomes a part of their daily routines. This is especially true for seniors. Some older people take multiple medications every day and one potential hazard for them is that mix-ups can happen and be detrimental to their health and safety.

Lets take a look at 6 great ways to help the senior in your life stay organized with their medications.

Maintain a Current Medication List

The first step in helping an older loved one with their medication is to make a list of all the drugs they are currently taking. Write down the name of the medication, the dosage, when it must be taken, and the doctor who prescribed it. Having an up to date list of your loved ones medication is a great way to ensure that you have a full understanding of their current prescription drug needs.

Get Rid of All Old Medication

Your loved one might have been prescribed a medication for a specific purpose or condition that no longer needs to be treated. Or their doctor tried a drug that didnt work well, so they choose an alternative one to use.

Whatever the case may be, make sure that any medication that your loved one no longer takes or needs is removed from their home. While it is tempting to want to just dispose of old drugs by flushing, or throwing them in the garbage, this is not advisable.
