Essentials 55+ For Light Mobile Users

The Essentials 55+ plan is the most budget-friendly T-Mobile package for older adults. Prices start at $40 per month for a single-line plan or $55 per month when you sign up for two lines . Just keep in mind that, unlike the Magenta plans , pricing for the Essentials 55+ package doesn’t include taxes or fees. Still, T-Mobile’s stripped-down, entry-level plan is quite a deal. For comparison, AT& T’s Unlimited 55+ plan costs $60 per line per month , so T-Mobile will definitely save you money.

Quick Tip: The account holder is the only person that needs to be 55 or older on your plan. That means you can include family members of any age on your plan, so everyone can save.

The Essentials 55+ plan comes with:

  • Unlimited 3G mobile hotspot data
  • Unlimited 2G in Mexico and Canada

Unsure if the Essentials 55+ plan is enough for you? Think about how often and where you’ll be using your phone. If streaming and picture quality are important to you or you’re on the go a lot, you might be better off with one of the Magenta plans. While your data is technically unlimited with your Essentials package, you may see slower-than-average speeds once you hit the 50 GB mark. We’d also recommend looking into the Magenta plans if you want to add the whole family to your plan. While you’re limited to two lines on the Essentials 55+ plan, you can add up to four lines on either Magenta plan. On the other hand, if you want to keep things simple and affordable, the Essentials 55+ is the way to go.

Breaking Down The 55+ Plans

T-Mobile offers three plans for their 55 and older customers: Essentials 55+, Magenta 55+, and Magenta MAX 55+. Each plan has something to offer depending on what you may be looking to get out of a phone. For those who want to connect to family or for emergencies, the more pared-down Essentials plan could be a great option, while the Magenta plan caters more to tech-savvy users who plan on using their phones for streaming video, social media, and other applications.

Lets take a look at the plans and see how they compare:

Essentials 55+
No Yes

Unlike some other providers that offer more customizable plans with talk-only options, all of T-Mobiles plans include unlimited talk, text, and data. All of the plans also include 50GB of data per month before service will be throttled, which we found to be more than enough to cover normal phone usage.

Another aspect of T-Mobiles plans is two of the three dont include additional taxes or fees when we signed up with Autopay .

Note: While there are no taxes or fees on the plans themselves, customers may be subject to these additional charges on phones or SIM cards when purchasing the plan. The no taxes or fees guarantee is on the price of the plan only.

Enjoy the following benefits with the Magenta 55+:

  • 5 GB of 4G LTE mobile hotspot data

Choosing The Best Cell Phone Plan For Seniors

Because there are so many options, both features and pricing are important to consider when it comes to senior cell phone plans. While there are several plans marketed toward seniors, a senior plan or discount doesnt necessarily make it the best choice.

A few of my top picks for senior phone plans do include senior plans and discounts, but these arent the only options available to seniors. Providers including Tello and Boost also offer great phone plans at some of the cheapest rates available without any discount. Youll see these below under Other Plans To Consider.

For this reason, its important to shop not only for senior plans but also to consider the price, features, customer service, reviews and coverage of all available phone plans. Those are the main factors I compared when researching for this article. Here are my top picks:

  • Tello Economy: Cheapest Cell Phone Plan for Seniors
  • Mint Mobile: Cheapest Unlimited Phone Plan for Seniors

    The Shopping Experience With T

Best Cell Phone Plans for Seniors in 2016

Another thing we really liked about T-Mobile is its lack of additional products and services. This seems counterintuitive, but when shopping with Verizon or AT& Tcompanies with home-based services like internet, cable, and landlinenavigating the different products can be complicated. Furthermore, with so many product offerings, companies try to sell new customers on bundled services, and it can be confusing to know if we were getting a competitive price or if we were being upsold on services we didnt need.

Luckily, T-Mobiles offerings are limited to wireless, which, while still somewhat complicated, take additional guesswork out of the proceedings. One area in which T-Mobile especially excels is their customer service, which also helps in the buying process. In our interactions with the company, their customer support team is always friendly and conversational, and they have a firm understanding of their plans which helps them answer any questions. The company features both prominent phone numbers as well as a live online chat to get in touch with a representative.

Note: T-Mobile has more than 8,000 retail locations nationwide, so if youre more comfortable making purchases in person, the store locator on their website could be a great place to start.

    Driving Options And Related Costs:

When it comes to costs of transportation, and ensuring proper vehicle insurance is in place, there are a few important notes to consider. Caregivers can accompany clients on outings and appointments in 3 different ways:

    1. Accompanying the client in a taxi or other third-party transportation company.

    • When a caregiver accompanies a client in a taxi, the client will pay the normal cost for the caregivers time.
    • The client also pays for the cost of the taxi.
    • If arranged in advance, the Affinity Health caregiver can pay for the taxi, and the cost can be added to the clients regular invoice. There is no upcharge on the taxi cost from Affinity Health.

    2. Driving the Client in the Caregivers Vehicle

    • Many of our caregivers have a vehicle that they use to get to and from work. Just because a caregiver has a vehicle, does not mean they have the proper insurance to drive a client as a passenger.
    • If a client would like to have a Affinity Health caregiver drive them to and from appointments in the caregivers vehicle, Affinity Health will ensure the proper insurance is in place before booking the shift for an outing.
    • When caregivers use their own vehicle to drive a client, the client will pay the normal hourly rate for the caregiver, as well as a modest per-kilometer charge to cover gas and wear-and-tear on the vehicle.
    • Affinity Health has a special waiver form that must be signed once in advance of taking this service.

    3. Driving the Client in the Clients Vehicle
