The County Is Leasing Land To An Affordable Housing Developer To Create 126 Homes For Low

A new affordable housing development for seniors broke ground Thursday on county property in the Linda Vista neighborhood.

Levant Senior Cottages will consist of 126 affordable homes for senior citizens as well as housing for the manager, and is slated to be finished by 2024.

We are taking action, and doing everything within our authority to make more affordable housing available for working families and seniors, county Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said at an opening ceremony. By using available land in our inventory and providing it to developers at discounted prices, it gives them the ability to build new housing more quickly without the hassle of finding the land and acquiring it, which can drive up the cost.

The project will be constructed on a 4.57-acre county property leased to the developers at $1 per year, with a $10,000 annual administrative fee. Its part of an initiative to use county land to ease severe housing shortages throughout the county.

The development will include a mix of studio and one-bedroom bungalows, and seniors who live there will pay no more than 30 percent of their income in rent, said Elaine Camuso, a spokesperson for the developer, Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation.

Nick Macchione, director for the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency, which oversees county housing projects, said the site is the first of eight surplus county properties to break ground for affordable housing developments.

Development Of 100 Apartments For Seniors With Low Income Breaks Ground In San Ysidro

SAN DIEGO, CA An empty dirt lot in San Ysidro is getting a new purpose as an affordable housing community with rental apartments for 100 seniors with low income, including 25 for seniors who have experienced homelessness, a transformation made possible through collaboration with the San Diego Housing Commission .

What were doing today is opening the door or I guess in this case, the windows of opportunity for more folks in our community, 100 affordable housing units for seniors, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said at a groundbreaking ceremony today for Ventana al Sur, which is window to the south in Spanish. Projects like these are how we tackle our regions housing affordability and our homelessness crisis. And Im particularly grateful that MAAC would go the extra mile and reserve 25 of these homes for homeless seniors. And theres no bigger issue facing our city currently than our homelessness crisis.

Developed by MAAC and Kingdom Development, Ventana al Surs rental apartments, a mixture of one- and two-bedroom units, will remain affordable for 55 years for seniors with income up to 50 percent of San Diegos Area Median Income, currently $52,050 for a two-person household. The development also includes one managers unit.

The development is anticipated to be completed in summer 2024.

City Heights Complex Expected To House Seniors Low

A new housing project designated 100% affordable and catering to seniors and low-income families in City Heights is in the final stages of construction.

The project has 78 family units and 117 units for seniors.

Fred Davis is a volunteer with Serving Seniors, the nonprofit organization that will help operate the building.

No matter where the location is here in San Diego, we still need housing for seniors, he said. We have a new generation of homeless seniors. Everything is going up, and most of the seniors live below the federal poverty level.

The new development is located at the busy crossroads of Fairmount Avenue and El Cajon Boulevard.

Serving Seniors CEO Paul Downey told KPBS that residents would have access to on-site activities and case management services, and they can receive no-cost meals just a few blocks away, at another Serving Seniors affordable housing complex.

But the building is not just for seniors: It will also be a space for low-income families through a collaboration with Price Philanthropies.

The building is tentatively scheduled to open in late summer.

Prospective residents who are 62 and older can now register their interest in the housing complex at servingseniors.org.

Downey said to register soon as demand is very high.

New Affordable Housing San Diego 2020

A new affordable housing development is poised to open in downtown San Diego in 2020. Called Torrey Pines Village, the project will create 176 units of affordable housing and serve as a catalyst for redevelopment in the area.

The project is being developed by Property Group Partners, who have partnered with Crescent Communities to create the development. Torrey Pines Village will feature ground-level retail spaces and park space, as well as underground parking for 71 vehicles.

The project is located on a 2.4-acre site at 601 H Street, just blocks away from the proposed cruise ship terminal expansion and close to other businesses, including La Jolla Civic Center, Courtyard by Marriott and Town & Country Shopping Center.

Torrey Pines Village is one of several initiatives being undertaken by the city of San Diego to address the dire need for affordable housing. In 2017, the city passed a resolution calling for the development of 1,500 homes or apartments that are affordable to low- and moderate-income residents by 2025.

The city has also invested in other initiatives, such as allowing developers to build taller buildings in certain neighborhoods and offering tax breaks to developers who build affordable housing. In addition, the city is developing 300 acres of land along the Riverbanks area for new residential developments that will be aimed at providing more affordable housing options for families.
